The Narcotics Anonymous Basic Text is the primary literature of the NA fellowship. First published in 1983 and now in its sixth edition, this book contains the NA program of recovery and personal stories from recovering addicts around the world.

What’s in the Basic Text?

The book is divided into two parts. Book One describes the NA program: what addiction is, how recovery works, the Twelve Steps of NA, and practical guidance for living clean. Book Two contains personal stories of recovery that show the diversity of NA membership.

Just for Today

Just for Today: Daily Meditations for Recovering Addicts is NA’s daily meditation book. Each day includes a quote from NA literature, a brief reflection, and an affirmation. The “just for today” concept is central to NA — rather than committing to never use again (which can feel overwhelming), members focus on staying clean just for today.

You can find NA literature at meetings or through na.org. To find meetings where these texts are discussed, search NA meetings near you.
